Everyone is winging it, some just do it more confidently

Impressive people seem to have boundless belief in themselves. How else would they have grand visions, raise that kind of money, or honestly get up in the morning? The truth is that the most impressive people are anxious overachievers. They must prove something — to themselves, their parents, or the world.

Despite their confident veneer, the most successful fret about the details. Always paranoid or worried that they are not good enough. I believe that “only the ones worried about being late, will be on time,” but I also wish people would allow themselves breaks, respites, and a good night’s sleep. (Me included.)

However, this has a silver lining. The fact that the ambitious aren’t superhuman means that more of us could be ambitious. What separates them isn’t a special talent or being crazy, but the willpower to try.

“There are no grown-ups. We suspect this when we are younger, but can confirm it only once we are the ones writing books and attending parent-teacher conferences. Everyone is winging it, some just do it more confidently.” ― Pamela Druckerman [1]

Building something ambitious is not that much harder — absurdly enough. You attract more great people, money, and attention fueling the journey. It’s much more work riding a dragon than a horse, but the view is more spectacular.

Ask yourself what is hindering you. Do you lack the idea, the people, or the time? Then remind yourself that all you need — and will need in spades in the coming years — is willpower.
